As a student, I still have the need and desire to enhance my knowledge in order to integrate the best quality and latest body of evidence and apply it into real life scenarios. Moreover, further studying is needed in order to enhance pharmacological treatment plans. Areas that are more challenging to me are deciding which are the best pharmacological treatments for each specific patient, especially when patients have multiple comorbidities. Lastly, there are some areas of weakness for example, selecting the right screening tools and applying it to a specific situation. For the next courses I plan to study more pharmacological guidelines as well as evidence based practice magazines, books and journals that will help me come up with the correct patient center care decisions. I can conclude by saying that with time and practice I will be able to amplify my practice skills and become a more proficient FNP.

During this clinical rotation I learned how to utilize clinical practice to improve patient’s care and outcomes. For example, I participated on the care of a patient with hypothyroidism. When obtaining the medical history I was able to recognize that patient had a thyroidectomy six months ago and she was not being compliant with her thyroid medications. With this in mind, it allowed to educate the patient on the importance of being compliant with the treatment plan as well as recognizing the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. Evidence-based clinical decision-making skills are critical to the development of core competencies for NP students (Hallas et al., 2014).
