The spirit of independence has enlightened me and blessed me with the power to think freely. Ladies and gentlemen and all the audiences who are hearing, welcome everyone. Today I will tell you how the spirit of independence has led me to think freely. A few days ago I was going somewhere by rickshaw and stuck in a traffic jam meanwhile. The time was really boring and I made a plan to pass it talking to someone I don’t know. I started talking to my rickshawala. I asked him whether he knew about the hall mark scam and the draining of huge amount of money from this country.
Do you know what he said? He said ‘my money is in my pocket, so I don’t bother who is taking whose money and where. I was astonished that to what extent the leaders are exactly misusing power and to what extent this lower class people are deprived of the information. I am and perhaps all of you know about these phenomena. I am so fortunate that I know the fact and I am lucky in terms of him that the spirit of independence could not nourish him. Many people prioritize work over life and can’t sacrifice their work- life just like work days.
If you ask them they will tell you that they don’t want anyone to interfere in their independence, even it could be very visible among the working wives and husbands. But today I will tell you a different but important thing which I got from independent thinking. “Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them – work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back.
But the other four Balls – family, health, friends and spirit – are made of glass. If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for Balance in your life. ” That’s why a renowned poet of Bengali literature said, it is so difficult to protect independence than achieving it. And you must understand the level of independence you will feel working out between your family and work. The spirit of independence can help you to grow well and be great.
Because it is the only thing in this world which can help you stride forward leaving behind the barriers. Perhaps many of us who are present here today know about Mir Afsar Ali of Mirakkel Akkel Challenger who is popularly known as Mir. Do you know about his background? I had a practical experience of knowing that. He said at one point of his life he and his family has to live on the street. Still Mir was not frustrated. He sought for any kind of job which could give him and his family a square meal.
But the long-cherished desire which was shining in one corner of his mind led him to work on. And now we can see one of the most creative shows launched by this who was on the street the other day. That how independent thinking help him to be what he is today. So nourish your brain, work hard and hope for the best. When we collect money jointly to save sick mother that’s the spirit of independence, when we rush to help the CIDR affected people there’s the spirit independence, when we distribute clothes to the poor in the cold night there’s the spirit of independence.
When we move forward and stand against any wrong doing in the society there’s the spirit of independence when we talk against eve-teasing there’s the spirit of independence. Can you imagine how we have gained our independence? It was the spirit of independence that united all class of people- students, teachers, farmers, doctors, labors, workers, rich and poor. This was the spirit of independence which led the boy to leap before a tank binding mine in this chest. Ladies and gentlemen, more than 40 years have passed since we gained our liberty, but the peace and the prosperity are yet to be ensured.
Our society is now suffering from acute disease corruption. Once again we need to be reunited to stand against this and to adorn this land with what it actually deserves. We need to be on the way of honesty and conformity. Before I conclude my speech, Ladies and gentlemen, I want to share a piece of advice with you. Don’t be friendly, be approachable; don’t be memorable, be unforgettable; and don’t use to be some guy, be that guy and that exactly persuade you to think differently and independently as well. Thanks to all.
